Growing in Spring

What an exciting time of year this is....the smell of spring is in the air!  The magnolia and cherry blossoms are exploding, the sweet scent of jasmine fills the air and all those spring bulbs are bursting with colour.  The time has come to venture back into the garden again and soak up some sun!

Now is the perfect time to give your whole garden a big feed using an organic slow release pellet based fertilizer.  Come into the nursery to pick up 15kg of Organic fertiliser on special at $27.50.  Your Citrus and Roses will especially love you if you give them a generous handful of All Purpose Fertiliser, great for promoting strong and plentiful fruitis and flowers.

With an abundance of fresh juicy new growth everywhere keep a close eye out for aphids.  These little sap suckers love to feed on new growth and can quickly cause quite a bit of damage if left unchecked.   If you do find any of these nasty little critters in your garden come in to see us for a range of organic and low toxic treatments.

Spring is the time to think about all those wonderful summer crops.  Seedlings that can be planted now are Tomatoes, Chillies, Corn, Beans, Beetroot, Spinach, Silverbeet, Capsicum, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Pumpkin, Eggplant, Sping Onion, Leek, Lettuce and Strawberries to name a few. Now is also the time to plant herbs including Rocket, Basil, Chives, Coriander, Parsley, Mint, Oregano, Thyme and of course Rosemary  Plants such as carrots, peas, corn and sunflowers are best planted directly into the garden or pots as they don't like to be disturbed. 

So spend some time this weekend getting busy in the garden.  Whether it's a pot of strawberries, a vegie patch or a complete garden makeover now is the time to get busy!
